Asian Longhorned Beetle

(Anoplophora glabripennis)

French common name: le longicorne asiatique


First discovered in North America in the early 1990’s, this forest pest was detected around Toronto in 2003 but early detection and rapid response management efforts allowed for this invasive species to be largely eradicated. This species targets a large variety of hardwood trees (oaks, elms, birch, etc.), and the variety of trees targeted and destructive nature of their invasion, they are a large concern for Canadian and New Brunswick forests.
