As a province, New Brunswick has over 80% forest cover, making our forests especially vulnerable to forest pests and tree loss. Help stop the spread of these invasive forest pests by purchasing your firewood close to where you will burn it. Buy Local Burn Local; Don’t Move Firewood!

Buy Local

Buy local firewood near your location or buy heat-treated firewood that is certified pest free

Burn Local

Burn local and enjoy your fire, leaving any leftover firewood on site

How Does This Help

Forest pests such as Spongy moths, the Emerald Ash Borer, and the Asian Longhorn Beetle are often moved through firewood and can destroy New Brunswick’s forests and urban trees.

By not moving firewood, you’re making sure you aren’t accidentally giving these forest pests a free ride throughout New Brunswick.

Program Activities

Through the BUY LOCAL BURN LOCAL program, we work with a variety of stakeholders including government, industry, parks, foresters, municipalities, and user-groups like campers to raise awareness about different forest pests and how to prevent spreading them. Check out our BLBL activities below and contact us if you would like to get involved!
